April 2006 Archives
Well, we will be away from blogging for a little while but I wanted to update everyone that Finn is saying a few words now. There's lots of garbled talk so I'm sure there's more words in there but these are just the ones we can understand.
"No" - that's very clear with round lips and a firm shake of the head.
"tickle tickle" - woke Nancy up with this yesterday and tickling her chin.
"kitty" - pointing to a cat. He can point out live cats and cats on a flashcard.
"dog" or "ghi!" - the Dog. He's called Spoon by name only once - when I was calling for Spoon I heard a little voice "poooo...!"
Then there's a few things he's said only once, but were very clear:
"wake up!" to Nancy
"my chair" rolling his stroller along, in response to "That's your chair!"
"Daddy comes home" - when I walked in the door. Apparently Nancy had been telling him Daddy's coming home.
Finn made a new friend at Ballard Community Center, named Oliver.

This website is powered by Perl! (thanks to someone in my UW Extension class! I still don't know your name! I would love to know who to thank. Finn loves his shirt.)

Today Doug and Finn went to the zoo. It's walking distance from our house. They've got a "temperate forest" petting zoo area near the front with goats, sheep, donkeys, rabbits, chickens, and other assorted kid-interesting stuff like a bug house and spider house. We also saw tapirs, macaques, elephants, siamang monkeys, orangutangs, penguins, and more. The exhibits at Woodland park are really great; all are open air (with shelters for the animals who like it warmer) and above or below human-eye-level which gives them much more privacy.

Farmer Finn sets a price for his onions:

Back on the tractor again...

Playing in the concrete "Habitrails". Finn loved these: just the right size caves for him, but too small for Daddy!

After much playing and lunch, it's time for a nap in the shade.

In the African village.

What's that fancy camera phone you have, Daddy?

On a rainy day, Finn likes to go to the Ballard community center where the toys are all different from what's at home. Many of the toys have DOORS - which are great for opening and shutting a zillion times. Best of all is a police car that is not just a car - it also has a DOOR!

Today Finn and father (that's me) went hiking to give Nancy a break. We were gone about 7 hours. This trail is called Twin Falls, though I'm not sure how many falls there actually are - I think we saw 3. It's about 20 minutes out off I-90. Pretty steep, or I'm just out of shape. Finn did a bit of hiking on his own, though mostly he ascended Yoda-style on daddy's back. Spoon loooves hiking and had a great time.

Nancy is trying one of Doug's fresh scones. They have cranberries, apricots, and pecans in them. The fruit doesn't matter, but the pecans really give them a wonderful flavor. As Bob used to say, it's all about the nuts.

Finn is out for a walk with his dog. I'm trying out my new camera phone (a Motorola PEBL). I like it, but it has no comparison to Nancy's photos. I love that hat!
