Granda visits Finnegan

This past weekend, my mother and step-father, Mike, visited us from California. We had a really great time hitting all the must-see Seattle tourist spots and spending time with Finnegan.

It's just amazing how much my mother's joy with Finnegan makes my heart yearn to be closer to her. I really enjoyed the simple pleasures of taking a walk in the park and eating dinner together while watching her play with her grandson.

There is also a sense of relief knowing that she and Mike are safe people to leave Finnegan with. It's so hard to trust people with my most precious gift. I wish that we lived closer to one another. I almost wish that I could buy her a house nearby, so Finnegan can visit her on a regular basis. It would be so nice to go to Grandma's house for lunch or to the Zoo.

When I was single I used to think that it was better to be away from family, but now I understand the need to be connected to my family. Having family close by is a support network that money or the best daycare cannot provide.

Finnegan has been very active the past couple of weeks.
He has been rolling around for two weeks and now he wants to walk. He loves to stand up and walk while Doug or I hold his torso. He looks so cute when he's padding across the floor and he's quite excited about it.

I had a dream last night that he wrestled himself from my grip and ran across the kitchen floor. I've been told that some babies don't go through the crawling stage and walk early. I wonder what Finnegan will do?

Another thing that I've noticed is that he's active with his Exer saucer which he just hated until about a month ago. I guess he wasn't ready for it. But, it seems that once he hit the six-month mark he was ready to do some many things. He can now do the following:

1. eat solids.
2. stand up.
3. almost sit up on his own.
4. eat biscuits.
5. drink from a cup.
6. watches the dogs intently.
7. sits forward in his stroller.
8. falls asleep very quickly.
9. his ecxema is almost cleared up.
10. vocalizes all the time.
11. He knows his name and responds to it.
12. He's very mischievious and a flirt.
13. Can grasp small items with his fingers, loves zippers and tags.

First word

Lately, Finnegan has been fascinated with watching the dogs and every time I say, "There's the doggie."

Well, yesterday he saw Spoon walk by and he said, "Gee." I didn't think I heard him right and then Spoon walked by again and he said, "Gee" again. Could it be his first word? I don't know.
