One Year Ago
There is not much in this world sweeter than an
exhausted little boy, just one year old, sleeping happily in your lap after his
first birthday party. It was so wonderful to have our family and friends there,
to share our beautiful children with them, and to see everyone. Though being a
hostess took some planning and work, it was really, really fun to do it in our
new house. I may not have done it with as much panache, style, or beautiful
details as Sara or Nancy could (you two women amaze me), but I think it went
rather well. I mostly just wanted to celebrate our beautiful boy. I woke up
before he did this morning, and just watched him sleep, remembering a year ago
today, when my labor started, and our joyous homebirth began. It was such an
experience, beyond words, to have Seth born at home, with Greg holding my hand
and supporting me, with my mother there to see him born, with Jade able to come
in and meet Seth moments after he came out of me. When I am old and gray and
senile, I will remember that night. Happy Birthday, little guy. I love
you.
